Your first registration will be valid for two years, and after that, you can renew the permit for 1 to 5 years, depending on your business plans. You must start the renewal process 90 days in advance of the original validity expiration date to avoid business interruptions.

  • Heavy penalties ranging from INR 2 lakhs to 10 times the actual production value.
  • Potential lawsuit against your company and imprisonment of up to 2 years with a fine or both.
  • The BIS can request seizure of your products through due process and raids.
  • You may receive an order to halt the manufacturing, selling, and importing process.

You can compile several models under one CRS registration if the models:
  • Are manufactured in the same facility.
  • Have a single trademark registration.
  • Have similar technical specifications.

However, each model will go through separate sample testing at the lab.

Ideally, you must renew the permit within the last 12 weeks of the ongoing registration to avoid a INR 5,000 penalty for renewal during the 90-day grace period after the expiration.

The test protocol can take around 15 to 20 days, and the review may take 15 to 25 days. The timeline may be extended if the authorities have any concerns about your product’s components, technical documentation, or business paperwork.
