• It sets up rules & regulations which must be followed by all food manufacturing companies, keeping into consideration food safety & hygiene.
• FSSAI in India has the responsibility to maintain proper records & date of all the registered organisations. Any violation of rules suggested by FSSAI can lead to the license termination.
• Any food safety related threat must be informed to the Government Authorities for further action. Also help them in framing food standard policies.
• The FSSAI responsibility is to spread awareness & inform the citizens regarding the importance of safe & hygienic food consumption.
• The quality and standard of food manufactured by companies registered under FSSAI is done by the organisation themselves.

What is FSSAI Logo and FSSAI License Number ?

The FSSAI License Number and Logo are always mentioned on the label of the food package in inverse colour to the background. In case of many units, the packer or manufacturer, the FSSAI logo and license number of the brand owner must be mentioned on the label of the food package. The addresses of the various units on the label must carry the FSSAI License Number. In case of imported food products, the importer must show the FSSAI Logo & License Number with the name & address of the importer. These may be pre-printed on the label or attached by a sticker before custom clearance.

• Diet4Life: This is one of the main initiative taken by FSSAI to spread awareness regarding metabolic disorders.
• Eat Right India: The main objective of this initiative is to provide quality of food to everyone. With this initiative, FSSAI intends to make some good quality food accessible to every citizen of the country.
• Save food, Share Food, and Share Joy: This initiative is introduced by FSSAI to avoid food wastage & promote food donation. With this, FSSAI intends to connect food collecting agencies with the food producing companies & share the food with the ones in need.
• Clean Street Food: This is for training street food vendors & making them aware of the violations as per Food Safety & Standard Act, 2006.

Different Types of FSSAI

• FSSAI Basic Registration: This Registration is mandatory for petty food manufacturers or the Food Business Operators having an annual turnover of less than Rs. 12 lakhs unless the FBO is covered under compulsory licensing.
• FSSAI State License: Medium size manufacturers, marketers, transporters, processors, or traders require the FSSAI State License from the State Government. The Food Business Operator has an annual turnover of more than Rs. 12 lakh but not exceeding Rs. 20 crore is considered a medium-sized Food Business Operator and must obtain a FSSAI State License.
• FSSAI Central License: A large-sized business transporting, manufacturing, processing & having international trade of food products must get the FSSAI Central License. The Food Business Operator having an annual turnover of more than Rs. 20 crore is considered a big business & must get an FSSAI Central License.
