BIS to issue standards for plastic to be used as alternatives for single-use plastic

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has released new standards that shall be used as alternatives to single-use plastic.

Recently the Delhi government issued a ban on single-use plastic from July 1 2022. A wide array of items have been banned from use, and this includes plastic straws, poly bags, plastic sticks for candies/ ice creams, thermocol, plastic cutlery, wrapping papers and PVC banners of less than microns. These single-use plastic items are not recycled properly and often end up in landfills or polluting the water bodies.
