On 31st August 2022, the Pollution Control Board, Assam, issued a Public Notice, Notification No. WB/T-298/21-22/74 in regard to the Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturing Units.
The notification states the following –
- The Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturing Units fall under the definition of the PIBOs, which is short for Producers, Importers, and Brand Owners, in accordance with the Waste Management Rules, 2016.
- The PIBOs are now required to obtain the Registration for Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturing Units through the Centralised Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Portal, which is in accordance with Rule 13 of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
- The notification further states that the Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturing Units are directed to apply for registration within 15 days, to be counted from 15th August 2022.
