An Overview of PSARA License in Nagaland

The private security agency provides services from basic residential security to VIP security; these agencies specialise in all modules of security services, including crowd management and personal security. To shine in a security service agency's business requires its personnel to be equipped with defensive capabilities depending on the nature and the seriousness of the security requirement. For this reason, specific legislation was brought in to regulate these security agencies. One such legislation is the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act. PSARA has been introduced to ensure credibility among security consultancy services in India.

Eligibility Criteria under PSARA in Nagaland 

Eligibility criteria for organisations / Principal Officers / Security guards

  • Any Sole proprietorship / LLP / private limited company can start a private security agency business in India.
  • The owner of the security service must be an Indian citizen and must be above 18 years.
  • The applicant should not hold a criminal record and not be punished or imprisoned for more than two years.
  • The licensee should not be expelled or disqualified from government services.
  • The applicant should be a certified and trained security guard with all desired physical standards per the PSARA Act.
  • The applicant should provide the character or antecedent certificate.

Conditions for the grant of PSARA license in Nagaland

Applicants should fulfil the following conditions to get the PSARA license.

  • The owner of the business entity shall successfully undergo training as prescribed by the controlling authority within the time frame as per the detailed training syllabus framed by it. The training shall be for a minimum of six working days under three categories: VIP training, internal security and institutional security. The training may include the following subjects, namely
  • Fire fighting
  • Disaster and emergency management control
  • Security duties
  • Information security
  • Access control
  • Training to handle explosives and IEDs
  • Anti-sabotage checks
  • Security related equipment
  • Communication equipment
  • Patrolling
  • The applicant should provide every detail of the director within two weeks to the controlling authority after receiving the license.
  • If there is any change in the address, it should be informed to the controlling authority within a week.
  • Any employee or the owner involved in criminal discharge should be reported to the controlling authority.

Necessary Papers that are necessary to obtain a PSARA license in Nagaland

  • Necessary Papers proving the registration of the company under the Shop & Establishment Act
  • Proof of ownership of the place of business
  • Associations with Controlling Authority nominated bodies

Process involved in obtaining a PSARA license in Nagaland

Getting the relevant necessary papers for filing the application

First, check for the availability of necessary papers with the applicant and gather all the necessary papers mentioned in the Act for applying.

Sign MOU with a training institute.

Proper training must give to the security guards and supervisors according to the PSAR Act. So the private agency should sign an MOU with the respective state government-certified training institute to provide training.

 Police verification

The applicant should submit Form -1, which contains all the details of the security agency, before the respective police authority for verification.

Application Submission

The candidate can submit the respective application only with the NOC from the police authority after verification of details in Form – I. The authority of PSA will review it and either issue or refuse the PSARA License.

The time period for getting a PSARA license

The PSARA license requires 60 days to get the license starting from the date of filing the PSARA application till getting the license.

Validity of PSARA license in Nagaland

Once the licensee gets the PSARA license, it is valid for only 5 years. It must be renewed every five years within three months before its expiry.
