The Tea Industry in India falls under the authorisation of the Central government of India. India is the home of the finest tea varieties worldwide due to its favourable geographical Indication and constant innovative and progressive trade practice. However, India is considered the second largest tea producer globally. To regulate the Tea Industry in India, the government established the Tea Act – of 1953[1]. The Tea Board aim to facilitate and promote the cultivation, Sales of Tea and processing of Tea in India. The board take up various activities such as organising fairs, exhibition, and trade between Exporter and Importer. This article will discuss the Types of Tea Board Licenses in India.    

Types of Tea Board Licenses

The following are the types of Tea Board Licenses which are discussed below and the requisite documents to apply for different types of licenses are mentioned below for the better understanding.

  • Tea Waste License: The Tea Waste licence is issued to prevent the misuse of Tea and ensure that the Tea is not wasted. Disposal of waste means getting rid of waste; however, discarding waste should be done scientifically. There are different methods of Tea waste disposal. Some modes are selling, separating the bioactive chemical components, manufacturing caffeine or tea making. However, these Types of Tea Board licenses are considered the most important.

The following are the documents required for a Tea Waste license

  1. Application in Form – A is to be filled including the date and seal of the appropriate authorised person
  2. Applicable fee payment
  3. Warehouse licence copy
  4. Manufacturing plant registration certificate – Copy
  5. Any other document, if demanded by the Tea Board.
  • Broker License for Tea Auction: Brokers having a valid license issued by the board can only conduct the Tea Auction. However, no person is allowed to conduct the Tea Auction by getting themselves registered.

The following are the documents required for a Broker License for Tea Auction.

  1. Application in Form – G is to be filled, including the date and seal of the appropriate authorised person.
  2. A copy of the Memorandum and Article of Association of the company and Certificate of Incorporation.
  3. Applicable fee payment has to be made.
  4. And any other documents, if asked by the Tea board of India
  • Warehouse License: Warehouse owners cannot carry on storing, blending or packaging Tea without a license. The second most crucial Types of Tea Board Licenses is a warehouse license to store the tea and Tea products. However, no license shall be required if the warehouse is located inside the port area owned by the port trust. 

The following are the documents required for the Warehouse License

  1. Application in Form – A is to be filled including the date and seal of the appropriate authorised person
  2. An applicable fees payment has to be made
  3. Registered Lease deed or Receipt of Rent
  4. Ownership Detailed of the Warehouse
  5. Warehouse Map
  6. Trade license
  7. And any other documents, if asked by the Tea board of India
  • Distributor License: The Tea Board issues the distribution license to the entity involved in the distribution of goods. The licensee must provide data of importation as required by the Tea Board either online or offline every month.

The following are the documents required for the Warehouse License

  1. Application in Form – A is to be filled, including the date and seal of the appropriate authorised person.
  2. A copy of the Import Export Code certificate issued by the DGFT
  3. Complete details regarding name, Residential Address, and E-mail. The ID of all the authorised personnel is attested in the company Letter Head along with company address proof.
  4. The written declaration has to be submitted by the applicant, declaring that no license of the Tea board is cancelled, suspended or revoked in his previous association.
  5. And any other documents, if asked by the Tea board of India
