BIS ISI for Capacitor

BIS stands for Bureau of Indian Standards. It is a National Body of India constituted by the BIS Act 2016[1]. BIS is established for the harmonious development of marking, standardisation and quality Certification of products and connected or incidental matters. It provides tangible & traceable advantages to the national economy through providing safe & reliable quality products, promoting import and export substitutes, decreasing health hazards to consumers, controlling the proliferation of varieties, etc., through standardisation, Certification and testing. In this blog, we will discuss BIS ISI for Capacitor.

Objective of the BIS

  • Harmonies & Continual development of quality certification, standardisation & marking of the products.
  • To ensure a new trust in standardisation & quality control.
  • Seamless growth of a national strategy for standards recognition & syncing them with the development of goods & products and exports.

What is Capacitor?

An object’s capacitance is its capacity to hold an electrical charge. Although the physical designs of these devices vary, capacitors typically consist of two conducting plates spaced apart by a dielectric material. Each plate may hold an equal and opposing charge thanks to this substance. This retained charge can then be released into an electrical circuit as necessary. Although a capacitor is an electrical component, many other things, including the human body, can store and release a charge. We’ll see that this skill has its uses.

List of Capacitors as per the Indian Standards

Sr. No. Indian Standard Code Product
1. IS 2993 A.C. motor capacitors
2. IS 13585 Part 1 Shunt Power Capacitors of the Non-Self-Healing kind for A.C. System having a Rated Voltage up to & Including 1000V Part-1 General Performance, Testing and Rating Safety Requirements Guide for Installation & Operation
3. IS 13340 Power Capacitors of Self-healing kind for A.C. Power Systems having Rated Voltage up to 650V

Benefits of BIS ISI Mark Certification

  • Safety & Quality Trust: BIS ISI mark on the product provides new trust to quality control, standardisation, safety & reliability of the products for the customers of India and globally.
  • Product Replacement Guarantee: If the product does not meet the Indian certification standards, the manufacturer becomes liable to replace the product with a new product in return. This ensures that the buyers get quality for the price they pay.
  • Distinguishes from low-quality products: BIS ISI certification’s primary advantage is establishing the product’s standardisation quality. BIS ISI mark product itself determines the good products from low-quality ones.
  • Ensure Products are already tested: The standards & quality of the products with the BIS ISI mark are set up as the mark is issued after proper investigation.
