An Overview of PSARA License in Meghalaya

A PSARA license is mandatory if any private security agency wishes to start its business entity in Meghalaya. These private security agencies deploy trained security guards and provide other security services to various organisations and institutions across India. These security agencies are regulated by the Private Security Agencies Regulation Act 2005. The PSARA establishes the guidelines such as qualifications, conditions, requirements and other standards required for establishing private security service agencies. On behalf of the agencies, the hired security guards should be given proper training with the help of a government-certified training institute.

Eligibility Criteria under PSARA in Meghalaya

Eligibility criteria for organisations / Principal Officers / Security guards

  • Any one person company / Association of persons/ private limited company can wish to start its private security agency business in India.
  • The business owner must be an Indian citizen and must be above 18 years.
  • The applicant should not be punished or imprisoned for more than two years
  • The applicant should not be expelled from government services on the ground of misconduct
  • The applicant should be a trained security guard with all desired physical standards
  • The applicant should provide the character or antecedent certificate about his employee (i.e. security guards)

Conditions for the grant of PSARA license in Meghalaya

Applicants should fulfil the following conditions to get the PSARA license.

  • The applicant should successfully undergo training relating to the private security services as prescribed by the controlling authority within a fixed time frame.
  • The applicant should provide each detail of the director, such as name, address, DOB and the principal profession of each director, within 15 days of license receipt to the controlling authority.
  • The applicant should inform the controlling officer if there is any change in the address of persons within 7 days from the change.
  • The applicant should immediately report to the controlling authority if any criminal charge is filed against the owner, supervisor or against any security guards working with them.
  • The applicant should abide by the standard physical rules for the private security guards.

Process involved in obtaining a PSARA license in Meghalaya

  • Getting all the relevant Documents for filing the application
  • Sign MOU with a government-certified training institute to train the security guard and supervisors
  • The police verification must be a part of obtaining a PSARA license
  • After getting the police verification, the NOC is submitted to the controlling authority to provide the PSARA license.
  • The period for getting a PSARA license may be within 60 days from the application filing date.

Validity of PSARA license in Meghalaya

Once the PSARA license is approved, it is valid for 5 years. It has been granted only for five years at a time. After 5 years, the PSARA License has to be renewed three months before its expiry.
