Union Cabinet Approves the National Green Hydrogen Mission

On 04th January 2023, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy issued a Press Release stating the approval of the “National Green Hydrogen Mission” by the Union Cabinet, chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The initial outcome for the Mission is stated to be INR 19,744 Crore, which includes the outlay of INR 17,490 Crore for the SIGHT Programme, INR 1,466 Crore for pilot projects, INR 400 Crore for R&D, and INR 388 Crore toward other components of the Mission.

MNRE is to formulate the Scheme Guidelines for the implementation of the respective components. The aim of the Mission is to make India a Global Hub for the production, utilisation and exportation of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives. The Mission is to help India in becoming Energy Independent and in the Decarbonisation of significant sectors of the economy.
