Procedure for obtaining Registration under Legal Metrology Maharashtra

Following are the steps that are required to be followed for obtaining Registration from the Legal Metrology Organisation of Maharashtra:

  • Application for Registration is filed along with all the required Documents in a prescribed format for the Manufacturer, repair, and Dealer. 
  • Application is sent to the Legal Metrology Officer for investigation.
  • After scrutiny of the Application by the Legal Metrology officer, if the Application is complete, then the investigating officer informs the applicant about the date of his visit to the premises. However, if the officer finds any of the information or Document missing, then he informs the applicant of the compliance of the same.
  • Applicant submits all the required Documents. After confirming the submitted necessary papers, the investigating officer informs the applicant about the date of his visit to the applicant’s premises. 
  • The investigation officer checks the Document and verifies them physically.
  • After successful verification and investigation, the investigating officer uploads the investigation report within two working days. 
  • After considering the report of the Legal Metrology investigating officer, if the Legal Metrology authority arrives at a conclusion and is satisfied that the applicant fulfils all the required compliances, then it considers granting Registration. And thereafter asks the applicant to submit the requisite fee.

However, if the Application is from the repairer, then he should undergo a technical ability test as specified by the Controller. After completing the ability test, issuing authority asks the applicant to deposit the requisite fee with the security deposit as per the Rules. 

  • After intimation of the Registration fee remittance, the issuing authority issues the required Registration Certificate.
  • If the Registration is refused due to non-compliance, the decision is communicated to the applicant.
  • Intimation regarding issuance of Registration Certificate is communicated to the concerned Legal Metrology Officer for information and record.
  • Issuing authority ensures that the process of issuance of Registration is completed within the specified time frame.

Reasons for rejection of applications for Registration under Legal Metrology Maharashtra are as follows:

  • The applicant is not the proprietor, partner, director, chairman, or company secretary of the firm or company. 
  • Mandatory Documents are not submitted.
