The Central Ground Water Authority\n(CGWA), which was constituted by the GOI under Section 3(3) of the Environment\n(Protection) Act (EPA) of 1986, has been formed in accordance with the Order of\nthe Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. CGWA authority, a subordinate office of the\nMinistry of Water Resources, GOI, is the National Apex Agency with the\nresponsibility of providing CGWA NOC<\/a><\/strong> along with scientific inputs for the\nmanagement, exploration, monitoring, assessment and regulation of groundwater\nresources of the country. The CGWA authority has been vested with the following powers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The authority can exercise powers\nunder Sec 5 of the Environment (P) Act, 1986, for issuing directions and taking\nmeasures in respect of all the matters related to sub-section 3 of the said\nAct. <\/li>
  2. To punish under penal provisions\ncontained in Sections 15 to 21 of the said Act. <\/li>
  3. To regulate and control the\nmanagement and development of groundwater in the country and issue necessary\ndirections for the purpose. <\/li>
  4.  Exercise powers under Sec 4 of the Environment (P)\nAct, 1986<\/strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup>, for the appointment of officers.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
