BIS\ngoverns the Compulsory Registration Scheme under Scheme II of Schedule II of\nthe Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulation,2018. The aim\nof the scheme is to help in growing the electronic and information technology\nindustry in India. Apart from implementing this scheme, the BIS performs\nvarious other functions, such as.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Implementing the Conformity\nAssessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schemes Development &amp;\npublishing of Indian Standards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implementing the Hallmark\nschemes <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognising &amp; running\nlaboratories for Conformity Assessment Schemes <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Representing India in ISO &amp;\nIEC<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conducting capacity-building\nprograms on quality assurance <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working for Consumer\nempowerment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The central\ngovernment has mandated that holders of a BIS license or certification of\nconformity must apply for permission before using standard marks.
