As\nthe new name suggests, the legal metrology department is based on regulations\nrelated to weights and measures, informing about the methods of measurements\nand measuring tools in favour of public safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Legal Metrology Department is one of the most vital organs of Consumer protection. It plays an important role in providing Citizens with helpful Administration Services. It is concerned with statutory and technical requirements to safeguard the Public Interest for security, the accuracy of weights and measures, etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Legal Metrology\nhas finalized the Goa Legal Metrology (Amendment) Rules, 2022, for the\nAmendment of the Goa Legal Metrology Rules, 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Legal Metrology\nhas control over the following- <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Weights, Measures, etc.<\/li><li>Trader<\/li><li>Offender<\/li><li>Manufacturer<\/li><li>Dealer<\/li><li>Repairer<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Functions_of_Controller_Legal_Metrology\"><\/span>Functions of Controller, Legal Metrology <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Duties and responsibilities of the\nController Legal Metrology originated from the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, Goa\nLegal Metrology Rules, 2011 and Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules,\n2011. Following are the functions of the Controller of the Department of Legal\nMetrology-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>It acts as the Head office of the Legal Metrology Department <\/li><li>It performs Supervision of sub-ordinate staff, Assistant Controllers, and Inspectors throughout Goa<\/li><li>It takes charge of the Administrative work of the Head office<\/li><li>It implements Plan Matters <\/li><li>It acts as a budget-controlling authority<\/li><li>It also acts as First Appellate Authority under the RTI or <strong>Right to Information Act, 2005<\/strong><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/rti.gov.in\/RTI%20Act,%202005%20(Amended)-English%20Version.pdf\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Regulations_of_Goa_Legal_Metrology_Amendment_Rules_2022\"><\/span>Regulations of Goa Legal Metrology (Amendment) Rules, 2022<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Legal\nMetrology, under the Government of Goa, has finalized the Goa Legal Metrology\n(Amendment) Rules, 2022, for Amendment of the Goa Legal Metrology Rules, 2011. The\nRules came into force on 1<sup>st<\/sup> September 2022. For Schedules II and\nIII appended to the Goa Legal Metrology Rules, 2011, new Schedule II and III\nhave been substituted in the new Amendment, Which is as follows-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Schedule II: <\/strong>The Amendment of Schedule II Specifies Licencing fees and renewal fees for manufacturers, repairer or dealers of weights and measures<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The details specified by Schedule\nIII are as follows-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Issue\nof licence\/renewal of licence to Manufacturer, Repairer and Dealer<\/li><li>Alteration\nof Licence<\/li><li>Issue\nof Duplicate Licence<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Schedule III<\/strong>: The Amendment for Schedule III specifies about Fees\nwhich is to be paid for the verification and Stamping of Weights and Measures,\nWeighing and Measuring Instruments<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The details specified by Schedule\nIII are as follows- <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Weights<ul><li>Bullion Weights<\/li><li>Brass Weights (other than Bullion)<\/li><li>Sheet metal Weight (other than Bullion)<\/li><li>Carat Weights<\/li><li>Cylindrical Knob Type Weights<\/li><li>Iron and Steel Weights<\/li><li>Standard weights for testing of High Capacity Weighing Machines<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Capacity Measures \/ tank lorry \/ storage tank<\/li><li>Length Measures<ul><li>Non-Flexible<\/li><li>Fabric \/ Plastic<\/li><li>Woven<\/li><li>Steel tapes<\/li><li>Folding Scales<\/li><li>Surveying Chain<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Beam Scale Class A &amp; B<\/li><li>Beam Scales Class C &amp; D<\/li><li>Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments, Mechanical (Analogue indication) \/ digital belonging to ordinary and medium accuracy class III &amp; IV<\/li><li>Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments, digital belonging to ordinary and medium accuracy class III &amp; IV <\/li><li>Weighing instruments of high accuracy class and special accuracy in both mechanical and electronics class II &amp; I<\/li><li>Automatic Weighing Instruments<\/li><li>Volumetric measuring instruments<\/li><li>Flow \/ Bulk meters<\/li><li>Linear Measuring Instruments<\/li><li>Clinical Thermometer<\/li><li>Blood Pressure Measuring Instrument<\/li><li>Water Meter<\/li><li>Kitchen Scale<\/li><li>Tubular balance<\/li><li>A person weighing machine, excluding bath room scales<\/li><li>Bathroom Scales: 120 kg and above<\/li><li>Baby or child weighing Scales<\/li><li>Peg or liquor measure<\/li><li>Automatic Rail weighbridge<\/li><li>Automatic Gravimetric Filling Instruments (it includes fill in ml or litre or Multiples thereto)<\/li><li>Discontinuous totalizing automatic weighing instruments (Totalizing Hopper Weighers)<\/li><li>Compressed Natural Gas<\/li><li>LPG<\/li><li>Continuous totalizing automatic weighing Instruments (Belt Weighers)<\/li><li>Automatic-in-motion road weighbridge<\/li><li>Weights for high-capacity weighing machines<\/li><li>Tapes for use in the measurement of Oil quantities<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Goa Legal Metrology (Amendment) Rules, 2022 have brought various changes in the department of Legal Metrology of Goa.
