The Central Government has included 12 new electronic products under the schedule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Standards for BIS CRS Certification for USB Type External HDD was also a part of the list. Getting a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/bis-registration\" title=\"BIS license registration\">BIS license<\/a><\/strong> is voluntary and lies in the hands of manufacturers, but some products require compulsory registration under BIS. The compulsion on registration of those products is made based on Public Interest, protection of human health and removing risks to humans, animals or plants, and to prevent unfair trade practices and safeguard national security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those products, the Central Government has directed using Standard marks registered under a License or Certificate of Conformity (CoC) by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/bis\" title=\"BIS Experts\">BIS<\/a><\/strong> through the issuance of Quality Control Orders (QSOs). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three\ntypes of schemes that provide product approval by BIS- <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Scheme-I (<a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/isi-mark-certification\" title=\"ISI Certification\">ISI mark<\/a> scheme)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scheme-II (Compulsory\nRegistration Scheme) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scheme IV (Grant of Certificate\nof Conformity)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a class=\"text-primary\" href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/bis-crs-registration\" title=\"BIS CRS Certification Online\"><strong>BIS CRS Certification<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>for USB Type External HDD is a part of Scheme II, the Compulsory Registration Scheme by BIS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BIS_regulation_on_USB_Type_External_HDD\"><\/span>BIS regulation on USB Type\nExternal HDD<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The BIS has notified 12 new electronic products under the List of Electronics and IT Goods under the &#8216;Compulsory Registration Scheme&#8217; for Self Declaration of conformity, which is notified by the Ministry Of Electronics And Information Technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new products have been included in the list by the notification number SO 1236 (E), dated 01st April 2020, which was later superseded by the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order 2021, passed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on 18<sup>th<\/sup> March 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order made the BIS CRS Certification for USB Type External HDD mandatory for registration before being marketed in India. The 12 new products which were included in the list of CRS are as follows-\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Standalone LED Modules for\nGeneral Lighting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lighting Chain (Rope Lights)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keyboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Induction Stove<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automatic Teller Cash\ndispensing machines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>USB Type External Hard Disk Drive<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wireless Headphones and\nEarphones<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>USB Type External Solid- State\nStorage Devices (above 256 GB capacity)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electronic Musical System with\ninput power below 200 Watts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Standalone Switch Mode Power\nSupplies (SMPS)with output voltage 48 V (max)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Television other than Plasma\/\nLCD\/LED TVs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rice Cooker<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BIS-Approval_tests_for_USB_Type_External_HDD\"><\/span>BIS-Approval tests for USB Type\nExternal HDD <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bureau of\nIndian Standards has listed some tests related to the BIS CRS Certification for\nUSB Type External HDD of India Standards IS 13252 (PART 1): 2010. The\nBIS-Approved laboratory performs the tests under the Compulsory Registration\nScheme. The tests prescribed for the USB Type External Hard Disk Drive by BIS\nare as follows- <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Tests for General Requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Marking Requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Electrical safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Wiring<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Mechanical properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Thermal Properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Fire Safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Insulating properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Communicating\nconnection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Radiation Safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests for Protection against\nIngress of water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Documents_required_for_BIS_CRS_Certification_for_USB_Type_External_HDD\"><\/span>Documents required for BIS CRS\nCertification for USB Type External HDD<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To obtain a BIS\nCRS Certification for USB Type External HDD, some general and technical\ndocuments are required by the Manufacturer, which is listed as follows- <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>CDF\/CCL form (Filled up) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BIS application form (Filled\nup)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scope of Business License<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manufacturing unit\u2019s business\nlicense <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marking Label\/ Details of\nMarking on the product<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authorization letter (If the\nsignatory person is other than the head of the manufacturing)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Test Report<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/iso-registration\" title=\"Apply ISO certificate Online\">ISO certificate<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; Manufacturer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/trademark-registration\" title=\"Trade Mark Certificate Online\">Trade Mark Certificate<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trademark Authorization Letter\n(If TM is owned by other than the Manufacturer)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authorized Indian\nRepresentative Company registration proof in INDIA (in case of the foreign\nManufacturer)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Photo ID of Authorized Indian\nRepresentative\/ Authorized Signatory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technical Specification Sheet\nof Product\/user manual<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Product Manual<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Procedure_to_Obtain_BIS_CRS_Certification_for_USB_Type_External_HDD\"><\/span>Procedure to Obtain BIS CRS\nCertification for USB Type External HDD<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To get a BIS CRS Certification for USB Type External HDD under Indian Standards IS 13252 (PART 1): 2010, the BIS has directed specific procedures for the manufacturers. However, the procedure to be followed by an Indian manufacturer is separate from that of a foreign manufacturer. The reason for the same is that in the case of a foreign manufacturer, an Authorized Indian representative is appointed to perform duties and carry on the responsibilities of the Manufacturer on his behalf. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following is the procedure to obtain BIS CRS Certification for USB Type External HDD in case of both foreign and Indian Manufacturers- <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The procedure to be followed by a Foreign Manufacturer\nis as follows-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>An AIR is appointed to perform\nall the duties on the Manufacturer&#8217;s behalf.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The AIR is required to submit\nthe application with all the required documents. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The AIR is then required to submit\nthe product sample for testing in a laboratory approved by BIS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The test reports are collected from\nthe BIS-approved laboratory and submitted to the BIS office for approval. A softcopy\nof the online application form \/ hardcopy application form for offline\nsubmission is also required to be submitted along with the test reports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The test reports are verified\nand examined at the BIS office for approval.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After verifying all the\ndetails, the BIS office BIS CRS Certification to the Manufacturer or authorized\nagent representative (AIR). <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The procedure to be followed by an Indian Manufacturer\nis as follows-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>The Manufacturer is required to\napply along with all the required documents. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Manufacturer must submit\nthe product sample for testing in a laboratory approved by BIS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The test reports are collected\nfrom the BIS-approved laboratory and submitted to the BIS office for approval. A\nsoftcopy of the online application form \/ hardcopy application form for offline\nsubmission is also required to be submitted along with the test reports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The test reports are verified\nand examined at the BIS office for approval.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The BIS office BIS CRS\nCertification to the Manufacturer after all the details are verified.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>BIS CRS Certification for USB Type External HDD is obtained under the Scheme II- Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) of Schedule 2, specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards. The USB TYPE EXTERNAL HARD DISK DRIVE is listed under Indian Standards IS 13252 (Part 1): 2010 by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
