The deadline for commercial feeds or feed material to comply with the applicable Indian standards meant for meat- and milk-producing animals has been extended by the Government of India and the Food Safety & Standard Authority of India. On January 27, 2020, this directive was given on the compliance of commercial feeds or feed materials under Section 16(5) of the Food Safety & Standard Act, 2006. The feed or feed material standard for animals designed to produce meat and milk was developed by the BIS in 2009. The appropriate BIS Standard for Cattle Feed must comply with commercial feeds or feed ingredients as of December 2019 under FSSAI regulations. Only products with the BIS Certification Mark may be manufactured, imported, sold, and distributed. Because feed and fodder are the main sources of contaminants, the FSSAI issued these guidelines and recognised the importance of regulatory control of animal feeds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deadline for stakeholders to implement the BIS requirement to carry the BIS Certification mark on the product label for commercial feeds\/feed ingredients intended for meat- and milk-producing animals was extended by the Government of India (GOI) and FSSAI until January 1, 2021. But to meet demands from industry stakeholders, the deadline was extended to July 1, 2021, due to the COVID-19 epidemic and subsequent state-wide lockdown in early 2020. However, the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak made it harder for stakeholders to obtain Certification or licensure. BIS has decided to extend the timeline for compliance with the provisions of the direction as mentioned above for those businesses whose applications for BIS licensing \/Certification of their product are currently pending until January 1, 2022.
