Electronic clocks powered by mains electricity must be registered with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as of 3 July 2013 under IS 302(Part 2): Section 26:2014 under the Compulsory Registration Programme; failure to do so would result in criminal penalties. The <strong>Ministry of Electronics &amp; Information Technology (MeitY)<\/strong><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.meity.gov.in\/\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup><strong> <\/strong>introduced the Electronics &amp; Information Technology Goods Order in 2012. Under this notification, the group of electronic devices should fall within the CRS. Therefore, without the appropriate BIS Certification, the manufacturer cannot distribute or sell the products indicated in the notification. Only 15 categories of electronic products were included, BIS CRS Certification notification published by MeitY. Through MeitY, 15 categories of electronic products were added in 2014. In 2016, smartphones had to support Indian languages, and 13 new categories of electronic products were added. In 2017, five new categories were added as part of the solar panels, devices, systems, and components goods (requirements for compulsory regulation) order 2017. This was done to support new and renewed energy. No manufacturer shall be permitted to import, sell, or distribute electronic devices that do not meet the Indian standards, said the BIS CRS Certification Scheme directive. All electronic products need to bear the BIS CRS mark and have a unique registration number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Important_Requirements_to_Obtain_BIS_Certification_for_Electronic_Clocks\"><\/span>Important Requirements to\nObtain BIS Certification for Electronic Clocks<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following\nare some important requirements to obtain BIS Certification for Electronic\nClocks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Product:<\/strong> If a manufacturer manufactures more than one product, the manufacturer has to file two separate BIS Certifications for each product category. <\/li><li><strong>Manufacturer: <\/strong>The BIS Certification is only issued to the manufacturer of the products. The importers, traders, or retailers do not apply for the BIS Certificate. However, they can act as an Authorised Representative of a manufacturer in India if the manufacturer doesn&#8217;t have an operating office in India. However, the BIS license is granted in the manufacturer&#8217;s name only.<\/li><li><strong>Manufacturing Address:<\/strong> The duly filled application form &amp; required vital documents shall mention a proper manufacturing unit address. In case a manufacturer has more than one factory for manufacturing a product, then separate BIS Certification is required for each manufacturing unit.<\/li><li><strong>Brand or Trademark:<\/strong> A manufacturer producing the same product for different brands has to apply for separate BIS Certification.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Documents_Required_for_BIS_Certification_for_Electronic_Clocks\"><\/span>Documents Required for BIS\nCertification for Electronic Clocks<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Following are\nsome documents required to get BIS Certification for Electronic Clocks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Company Registration Certificate. For SSI,\nrelevant registration certificate.<\/li><li>Flow chart of the manufacturing unit;<\/li><li>List of manufacturing machines (name, their\npurpose, capacity, etc.);<\/li><li>List of in-house testing facilities mentioning\ninformation of the calibration status, the least count etc. calibration\ncertificates of the testing devices that should not be more than three months\nold;<\/li><li>Information on packing and storage;<\/li><li>Map location;<\/li><li>Test report copies for every raw material and\npart;<\/li><li>Original test report of product from the BIS\nauthorised laboratory;<\/li><li>Authorisation from CEO if an authorised\nsignatory and if foreign manufacturers, information of Authorised Indian\nrepresentative (AIR);<\/li><li>Trademark Registration;<\/li><li>If certain processes are outsourced, the\ninformation and quality control documents related to the same;<\/li><li>Organisation chart;<\/li><li>Information on the quality control team and\ntheir qualification certificates;<\/li><li>Technical specifications of the product, the\ndrawing of the product, raw material and components information, list of\ncritical components, and user\/product manual.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Procedure_to_Obtain_BIS_Certification_for_Electronic_Clocks\"><\/span>Procedure to Obtain BIS\nCertification for Electronic Clocks<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The procedure to\nobtain BIS Certification for Electronic Clocks varies based on the map location\nof the manufacturing unit. Further, the BIS Certification procedure for foreign\nmanufacturers differs from an Indian manufacturer. The vital steps involved in\nobtaining BIS for Electronic Clocks include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Process\nfor Indian (Domestic) Manufacturer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Submit the Application form and\nall required documents on the BIS online portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Get the product samples tested\nfrom a BIS-approved lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Submit an offline\/online hard\ncopy of the application form, including the product samples test report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong> BIS officers verify the\nApplication form and all required essential documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 5:<\/strong> Grant of BIS Certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Process\nfor Foreign (Overseas) Manufacturer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Nominate Authorised Indian\nRepresentative (AIR) who can represent a foreign (overseas) manufacturer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Submit the Application form along\nwith required vital documents on the BIS online Portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Get the product sample testing\ndone from BIS approved lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong> Submit an offline\/online copy\nof the Application form and the product samples test report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 5:<\/strong> BIS officers verify the\nApplication and all required essential documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 6:<\/strong> Grant of BIS Certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Validity_Renewal_of_the_BIS_Certification_for_Electronic_Clocks\"><\/span>Validity &amp; Renewal of the\nBIS Certification for Electronic Clocks<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The BIS\nCertification for Electronic Clocks is valid for two years. The manufacturer needs\nto renew the BIS Certification when there is no alteration in the product and\naccording to Indian standards. Renewal of the BIS License is subject to a\nlicense fee and annual marking fee. The renewed BIS Certificate is valid for a\nminimum of 1 to 5 years. However, if the BIS certification renewal application\nform is filed after the expiry, the applicants need to pay a late fee of\nRs.5000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The BIS released an official notification stating the requirement of compulsory registration for the said product category under scheme II. Any manufacturers worldwide, including India, wishes to manufacture an electronic clock with mains power have to obtain themselves registered with the CRS of BIS.
