According to the <strong>BIS Act 2016<\/strong><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bis.gov.in\/index.php\/the-bureau\/bis-act-rules-and-regulations\/\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup>, the Compulsory Registration Scheme is run under the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulation, 2018 (Scheme Il of Schedule Il). The\ncompliance is set up to maintain public interest, protect human, animal and\nplant health, protect the environment&#8217;s safety, prevent unfair trade practices,\nand ensure national security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Following\nare the functions performed by BIS- <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Developing and Publishing Indian Standards <\/li><li>Implementing Conformity Assessment Schemes <\/li><li>Recognising the laboratories for conducting\ntests and trials <\/li><li>Implementing hallmarking schemes <\/li><li>Working for consumer empowerment <\/li><li>Providing quality assurance to consumers<\/li><li>Representing India in ISO and IEC <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Central\nGovernment has made it necessary to obtain approval to use standard marks under\na BIS License or Certificate of Conformity (CoC). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The\nproducts that fall under compulsory certification are required to obtain the\nfollowing certificates-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Scheme-I \u2013 ISI mark scheme<\/li><li>Scheme-II- CRS scheme <\/li><li>Scheme IV- Grant of Certificate of Conformity<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As per the order\nissued by BIS, dated 1st October 2020 in SO 3429(E), the Central Government\nlisted seven new products to be included in the Schedule of the\n&#8220;Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory\nRegistration) Order, 2012. The registration of the BIS Certification for smart\nspeakers falls under scheme II of the Compulsory certification by the\ngovernment.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BIS_Regulations_for_Smart_Speakers\"><\/span><strong>BIS Regulations for Smart Speakers <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of\nElectronics &amp; Information Technology, under the IPHW division, issued a\nnotification on 1st October 2020 which mentioned the list of products added to\nthe schedule of the &#8220;Electronics and Information Technology Goods\n(Requirements for compulsory registration) Order, 2012. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>As\nper the notification, seven new products are added to the Compulsory\nregistration certificates list. The\nreports must be accompanied by a copy of the online application form or\nhardcopy application form in the case of offline submission.<\/li><li>The reports are verified and examined at the BIS\noffice.<\/li><li>After verifying the details, The BIS office\ngrants BIS Certification for Smart speakers to the manufacturer or authorised\nagent representative (AIR).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The procedure\nfollowed by an Indian Manufacturer is- <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The application must be submitted along with all\nthe necessary documents<\/li><li>The applicant must submit the product sample for\ntesting to a BIS-approved laboratory.<\/li><li>The manufacturer must collect the test reports\nfrom the BIS-approved laboratory and submit the reports to the BIS office.
