The BIS is an organisation that ensures\nconsumers are consuming high-quality goods and can rely on them regarding\nsafety and health. BIS ensures a quality certificate for products and provides\ncustomers with safe and dependable products by minimising health and other\nrisks. The BIS is responsible for a variety of duties, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Product Certification scheme<\/li><li>Standards Formulation<\/li><li>Compulsory Registration Scheme (CSR)<\/li><li>hallmarking of the products <\/li><li>ISI certification to the products<\/li><li>Product testing through lab tests<\/li><li>Testing of manufacturing premises <\/li><li>Keeping a check on Consumer Affairs Activities,\netc. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On April 1,\n2020, the Bureau of Indian Standards issued an announcement and drafted the\nsafety standard for the quality testing of electric rice cookers. Before being\nsold on the Indian market, all-electric rice cookers must be Quality Tested and\nobtain a BIS Certification for Rice Cooker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_CRS\"><\/span>What is CRS?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Compulsory\nRegistration Scheme or CRS works under Scheme II of BIS (Conformity Assessment)\nRegulations, 2018. Ministry of Electronics &amp; Information Technology and the\nBureau of Indian Standards jointly launched the Compulsory Registration Scheme\n(CRS) in 2012. (BIS). Ministry of Electronics &amp; Information Technology\n(MeitY) has notified &#8220;Electronics and Information Technology Goods\n(Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012&#8221; on 3<sup>rd<\/sup> October\n2012 for fifteen categories of electronics items. Another 15 product categories\nwere added by MeitY under this order on 13 Nov 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another 13\nproduct categories were added by MeitY under this order on 23 August 2017. Under\nthis scheme, manufacturers are required to register their products before\nreleasing them on the market. The products undergo safety testing following the\napplicable IS standard. Foreign manufacturers are required to have a local\nrepresentative in India who will be in charge of distributing their products.\nRice cooker is included on the List of Electronics and IT Goods under the\n&#8220;Compulsory Registration Scheme&#8221; for self-declaration of conformity,\nas notified by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
