Legal metrology falls under the department of consumer affairs, food and public distribution wings of the government of India came into the year 2009. They handled the monitoring and regulation of manufacturing, import and business of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/model-approval-certificate-for-weights-and-measures\">weighing and measuring instruments<\/a><\/strong> and devices. Additionally, Enforcement\nof Legal Metrology is mentioned in Entry 33A of the Concurrent List.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Meaning_of_Weights_and_Measures\"><\/span>Meaning of Weights and Measures <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Legal metrology&#8221; means that part\nof metrology which treats units of weighment &amp; measurement, methods of\nweighment &amp; measurement &amp; weighing and measuring instruments, to the\nmandatory technical &amp; legal requirements which have the objects of securing\npublic guarantee from the point of view of security &amp; accuracy of the\nWeights and Measurements. The main objective of Legal Metrology is to ensure\nthe public guarantee from the point of view of security and accuracy of the\nweights and measurements.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Function of Legal Metrology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Accuracy in measure plays a crucial\nrole in the day to day life. Efficient and transparency in the legal metrology\nsystem inspire confidence in industry, trade and consumers and bring a\nharmonious environment for conducting business by <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Contributing\nto the economy of the country by enhancing the revenue in various sectors <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Playing an\nessential role in reducing the revenue losses in the petroleum, coal mines,\nindustries, and railways.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduction\nin loss and wastage in the infrastructure sector<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The work performed by legal metrology\nis very important to the general public interest at large. It is a statutory\nbody with powers and responsibilities prescribed under the Legal Metrology Act,\n2009, to interstate trade and commerce of weight and measures, including pre-packaged\ncommodities. The Director of Legal Metrology is responsible for establishing and\nmaintaining legal metrology standards. Here are a few\nexamples of weighing and measuring equipment that must be stamped.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weighing\nMachines are used for fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, postal services, sweets\netc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The measure\nof volume: wine glasses and carafes, beer glasses and automatic measuring\nmeters or&nbsp; alcoholic spirits measures\n(&#8216;optics&#8217;) and &#8216;thimble&#8217; measures or wine glasses and carafes, petrol pumps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Length\nMeasure: commonly known as &#8216;yardsticks&#8217; but must now be metre measures used for\nfabrics, material, electrical, ribbon, cable, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flexible\ntapes, used for carpet and floor coverings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Inspections_of_Weights_and_Measures\"><\/span>Inspections of Weights and Measures <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ninspection of Weights and Measures are discussed below for a better understanding\nand knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>New weighing &amp; measuring equipment intended\nfor determining the number of goods sold has to be manufactured to an evaluated\n&amp; approved type called a (TEC) &#8216;- Type examination certificate. This means\nthat the design &amp; construction of the equipment must have been evaluated,\napproved and certified by legislation and have the appropriate required\nmarkings and details attached.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>This equipment is then subject to periodic\ninspection for accuracy &amp; continued conformity by trading standards\nofficers who are qualified in weights and measures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>If weighing and measuring equipment are not of the\nrequired accuracy when inspected, the inspecting officer may issue instructions\nto adjust the equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After reading this piece of writing, it can be concluded that the Legal metrology department set and enforced standards of weights and measures to regulate trade commerce.
