Thus creating a large\nmarket for helmet manufacturers to get profitable sales. The Ministry of Road\nTransport &amp; Highways (MoRTH) has passed the notification that all\ntwo-wheeler helmets must be BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certified and\nshould carry the ISI Mark by 1st June 2021. As per the new notification, the\nBIS ISI Certification helmets will be allowed to be sold in the Indian market.\nThis step is to minimise &amp; eventually eradicate the sale of low-quality\nhelmets and improve their safety. The new norms have replaced the earlier\nnotification, which came into effect in 2018 and stated the weight of a\ntwo-wheeler helmet should not exceed 1.2 kg. However, one part of the\nnotification also noted the government wanted to lower the weight of the\ntow-wheeler helmet to 1200 grams. That led to a big hue &amp; cry as it meant\nthat almost every imported full-face helmet would not be permitted to be sold\nin the Indian market, which did not carry the ISI mark &amp; weight\nconsiderably more than the allowed limit. The revised norms allow the sale of\nimported two-wheeler helmets if the helmet complies with Indian Standards &amp;\ncertification criteria. Most high-quality two-wheelers imported helmets comply\nwith several International standards like ECE &amp; DOT, and they can be sold\nin the Indian market.
