On the contrary, products that are in a larger format, i.e.,\nSecondary Lithium Batteries &amp; Cells, are tested in accordance with the IEC\n62619.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nIS 16046 (Part-2), the revised standards, are similar to IEC 61233-2:2017, which\nstates the standards for the secondary batteries and cells comprising alkaline\nor other non-acid electrolytes, Safety norms relating to portable secondary\ncells, and for batteries manufactured from them, for utilisation in portable\napplications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part 2: Lithium systems are granted by the IEC, i.e., <strong>the International Electrotechnical Commission<\/strong><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Electrotechnical_Commission\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup> adopted by BIS on the approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council and the technical advice of the Secondary Cells and Batteries Sectional Committee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These set standards were made publicly accessible in 2012 &amp;\nsubsequently revised in 2015. IEC 62133: 2012 was used as the reference for the\nfirst revision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The subsequent revision of the said standard has been done to\nalign it with the updated version of the IEC 62133:2017 to make pace with the\nrunning global norms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key amendments in the revision are mentioned as follows &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Nickel system\u2019s separation<\/li><li>Incorporation of coin cell requisites<\/li><li>Updating the cell assembly of batteries<\/li><li>Mechanical Tests such as Shock Test and Vibration\nTest <\/li><li>Inclusion of IEC TR 62914 in the Bibliography<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tests_Conducted_by_BIS_for_Lithium-Ion_Batteries\"><\/span>Tests Conducted by BIS for Lithium-Ion\nBatteries<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>IEC 62133\/IS 16046\nhave laid out the following testing requirements for the batteries and cells\ncontaining alkaline electrolyte. The tests mentioned below ensure the reliability\nof their functioning under different operating conditions &#8211; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Charging \/ Discharging Test<\/li><li>Continuous charging Test<\/li><li>Insulation Resistance Test<\/li><li>Moulded case stress at high\nambient temperature Test<\/li><li>Vibration Test<\/li><li>Temperature Cycling Test<\/li><li>Crushing Test<\/li><li>Incorrect installation Test<\/li><li>Free fall Test<\/li><li>External short circuit Test<\/li><li>Thermal abuse Test<\/li><li>Mechanical Shock Test<\/li><li>Low-pressure Test<\/li><li>Forced discharge Test<\/li><li>Over-charging Test<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Marking_Norms_of_BIS_for_Lithium-Ion_Batteries\"><\/span>Marking Norms of BIS for Lithium-Ion Batteries <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The\naforesaid standards seek battery manufacturers to affix the following\ninformation on the final product, i.e., Li-ion battery: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Secondary (rechargeable) Li or Li-ion&nbsp; <\/li><li>Cell or Battery Designation in accordance with the Cl.5.1 of\nIS 16047(Part-3):2018<\/li><li>Date of manufacture (via coding system)<\/li><li>Polarity<\/li><li>Name and contact of the manufacturer<\/li><li>Nominal voltage<\/li><li>Rated capacity<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Compulsory_Registration_Scheme_under_BIS\"><\/span><strong>Compulsory Registration Scheme under BIS<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bureau of Indian Standards constituted\nthe <strong>Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) in 2012 for the products category\nas notified by the <\/strong>Ministry of Electronics &amp;\nInformation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is CRS?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>CRS means a Compulsory Registration\nscheme usually covers the electronic and IT goods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The production, importation, trading or distribution of Lithium-Ion Batteries is not permitted without the application of authorised BIS markings. Entities engaged with the above undertakings are required to secure the <a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/bis-registration\"><strong>BIS registration<\/strong><\/a> beforehand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aforesaid product category also includes regulations of BIS for lithium-ion batteries.&nbsp; These batteries have to pass the tests (as mentioned above) conducted by the BIS-certified labs to get qualified for BIS registration. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After securing the BIS registration, the\nlicensee becomes eligible to that their products are manufactured and tested as\nper the Indian standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The registered person can affix the\nBIS standard mark along with the registration number allotted by the BIS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Checklist_of_BIS_for_Lithium-Ion_Battery_Producers\"><\/span>Checklist of BIS for Lithium-Ion Battery Producers &nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following checklist mentioned below states the set\nStandards of BIS for Lithium-Ion Battery Producers &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Make sure the lithium-ion\nbattery or cell falls under the compulsory registration scheme. <\/li><li>Test your products for\nconformity via BIS certified lab as per the MeitY guidelines<\/li><li>At the time of filing, ensure\nto submit the latest test report, i.e., not older than 90 days. <\/li><li>A self-declaration printed on\nan affidavit must be submitted by an Indian application as per the format\nnotified by the BIS. <\/li><li>A foreign applicant seeking BIS\nregistration needs to appoint an Authorised Indian Representative in accordance\nwith the BIS\u2019s guidelines. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Registration_Procedure_of_BIS_for_Lithium-Ion_Batteries\"><\/span>Registration Procedure of BIS for Lithium-Ion Batteries<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following steps\nmentioned below state the Registration Procedure of BIS for Lithium-Ion\nBatteries &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Step 1: Having a detailed\nknowledge of the product and identifying all the necessary applicable set\nstandards.<\/li><li>Step 2: Conducting mandatory Testing\nof the products through a BIS Certified Laboratory.<\/li><li>Step 3: Filling of the Test\nReport results along with submission of the required mandatory documents.<\/li><li>Step 4: Submit the hard copy of\nthe said documents at the respective registered BIS Office.<\/li><li>Step 5: The designated BIS\nofficials vet the said documents for conformity with relevant norms.
