Scroll down to check more information regarding Legal Metrology in Food Industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"mt-3 mb-3 embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\"><iframe class=\"embed-responsive-item\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NKnE0KISi2M\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Various Rules\nUnder Legal Metrology Act, 2009<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we discuss the role of Legal Metrology in Food Industry, let&#8217;s know some rules under <a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/legal-metrology-act-registration\"><strong>Legal Metrology Act<\/strong><\/a>, 2009, the following 7 rules are prescribed: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong><em>The Legal Metrology (Packed Commodities) Rules, 2011<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Applicable to all packaged commodities comprising food products.<\/li><li><strong><em>The Legal Metrology (Numeration) Rules, 2011<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 This Rule specifies the manner in which numbers should be written.<\/li><li><strong><em>The Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 These are for private individuals looking for verification &amp; approval of Government Approved test centres for some of the weights in measures.<\/li><li><strong><em>The Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011<\/em><\/strong><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/megweights.gov.in\/acts\/Legal-Metrology-General-Rules-2011.pdf\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup> \u2013 Specifies measures &amp; weights in general along with describing the instruments &amp; their verification.<\/li><li><strong><em>The Legal Metrology (National Standards) Rules, 2011<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 These Rules describe the provisions at National Level for different prototypes and weights maintained in National Labs.<\/li><li><strong><em>The Legal Metrology (Approval of Modes) Rules, 2011<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 This Rule is precisely for all Manufacturers &amp; Importers manufacturing the weights &amp; measures.<\/li><li><strong><em>Indian Institute of Legal Metrology Rules, 2011<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 This Rule defines courses &amp; qualifications for Legal Metrology Officers (LMO) at the Indian Institute of Metrology, Ranchi.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Essentials of\nthe Legal Metrology in Food Industry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rules\nunder Legal Metrology in food industry or Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities)\nfor a food label can be categorised into the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Name &amp; address of the\nmanufacturer<\/em><\/strong>: This is the most important part of Legal\nMetrology in food industry. In this manufacturer regarding any commodity in\npackaged form, means an individual who, or a firm which makes, manufacturers,\nor produces such commodity and comprises an individual, firm which puts\/causes\nto be put, any mark on any packaged commodity, not produced, manufactured by\nthem and the mark claims the commodity in the package to be a commodity made,\nmanufactured, or produced by such individual\/firm, as the case may be.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ncomplete name &amp; address of the manufacturer or the packer &amp;\nmanufacturer, when the manufacturer is different from the importer &amp; packer\nand should be declared clearly. Following are the details that must be\nmentioned in the complete address:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>City &amp; state;<\/li><li>The full address of the postal\nwhere the manufacturing factory is located;<\/li><li>PIN Code or Postal Index Number\nCode.<\/li><li><strong><em>Date Indications<\/em><\/strong>:\nEvery packaged commodity must announce the month &amp; year of manufacture.\nThese may be shown in numerals or words. The FSSAI Labelling &amp; Display\nRegulations, 2020 clearly defines what dates should be shown on the food\nproduct. <\/li><li><strong><em>Retail Sale Price<\/em><\/strong>:\nThis means the maximum price at which the packaged commodity may be sold to the\ncustomer.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nmanner in which the declaration must be written is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Maximum Retail Price (MRP)\nRs.______inclusive of all taxes.<\/li><li>MRP Rs._____ inclusive of all\ntaxes.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nthe case of packaging like bottles used in brinks beverages, the Retail Sale\nPrice must be shown on the cap of the drink bottle in the manner mentioned\nabove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ndeclaration ofRetail Sale Price&amp; net quantity must be printed on the pack\nin contrasting colour with the label background. Given that, if the label\ndetails are blown, formed on a plastic or glass material, then a contrasting\nbackground is not needed. Also, if such declaration is in the form of a hand\nscript, it must be understandable &amp; clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Declarations on Wholesale\nPackage<\/em><\/strong>: It means a package containing a number of\nretail packages, where such 1<sup>st<\/sup> mentioned package is intended for\nsale, distribution or delivery to an intermediary &amp; is not intended for\nsale directly to a single customer. All wholesale packages must contain the\nfollowing declarations made in the clear form:<\/li><li>The complete name &amp; address\nof the manufacturer or packer or importer;<\/li><li>The commodity identity;<\/li><li>The total number of Retail Sale\nPacks present in the wholesale pack.<\/li><li><strong><em>Net Quantity<\/em><\/strong>:\nNet quantity regarding commodity contained in a package means the quantity\nweight, measures or number of such commodity included in that package,\nexcluding the wrapper or packaging. The net quantity should be mandatorily\ndeclared by the food manufacturer in terms of correct weights or numbers, as\nthe case may be.<\/li><li><strong><em>Area, letter, size of the\nPrincipal Display Panel (PDP)<\/em><\/strong>: PDP means that part of\nthe package or a container that is likely to be shown or inspected by the\ncustomer under normal &amp; customary conditions of display, sale\/purchase of\nthe food article contained therein. All the required details should be\ncorrectly shown on the PDP and must be clear &amp; prominent.
