BIS Registration ensures quality, genuineness, and product safety to the customer. The Government of India while considering the consumer\u2019s health and safety has declared the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corpbiz.io\/bis-registration\">BIS Registration<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0mandatory for a few products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is essential to ensure\nthe customer that the products they are using in their regular lifestyle are of\nexceptional quality and are safe to use. Acknowledging this truth, a foreign\nagency in Geneva established an organization named ISO (Global organization of\nstandardization) that ensures that products provided to the customers are of\noutstanding quality and appreciation after use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India is also a member of this Global Organization of Standardization with the name of <strong>BIS (Bureau of Indian standard)<\/strong><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bureau_of_Indian_Standards\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup>. The BIS Certified products are devoted to the standards and one may rely on those products. The BIS reviews the product standards once in five years to observe the quality of the products the company is offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Basic_Standards_for_BIS_Certificate\"><\/span>Basic Standards for BIS Certificate:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Below mentioned are the\nbasic standards for obtaining a BIS Certificate &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indian standard\nSpecification- The Product shall meet the criteria of Indian Standard\nSpecification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong>Registration only to the manufacturer of finished products-<\/strong>The Registration is issued to the Distributor\/Retailer.<\/li><li><strong>Separate Applications for each product and factory<\/strong>&#8211; In this case, if multiple factories are owned by the\nmanufacturer and each factory is located at a distinct geographical address,\nthe manufacturer must file a separate application for each product and factory\nlocation.<\/li><li><strong>Fully-equipped Laboratory<\/strong>&#8211; The Laboratory should\nbe fully-equipped with product testing equipment. Also, it must have qualified\nquality control personnel to test the product following the applicable ISS.<\/li><li><strong>Meet the ISS Norms and SIT<\/strong>-All\ntesting facilities, and the machinery should be located on the premises as per\nIndian Standards norms and respective Scheme for Inspection and Testing.<\/li><li><strong>The complete process of manufacturing in the same factory-<\/strong> The entire process of manufacturing products should be\ncompleted in the same factory.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Complying with the\ntechnical guidelines is available for all the products.Also, the BIS \u2013 ISI\nCertificate, helps the companies and their products in ensuring the following\npurposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Gaining consumer trust<\/li><li>Guaranteeing the\nconsumers health<\/li><li>Ensuring that the product\nis safe and free from harm.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is it mandatory to obtain a BIS-ISI Registration in India?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>BIS-ISI Certification is\nmandatory for more than 150 products. In general, it is voluntary to get BIS Registration.\nHowever, the BIS made it compulsory to obtain the certificate on certain\nproducts as it helps in assuring the safety of the consumers from substitutes\nand fake products.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Types_of_BIS-ISI_Registration\"><\/span>Types\nof BIS-ISI Registration<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the BIS \u2013 ISI Registration,\nthere are two types of Registrations-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mandatory Registration<\/strong>&#8211; The Mandatory BIS Registration includes factory inspection<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Voluntary BIS Certificate\n<\/strong>-This Registration is required to gain the trust of the\nconsumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Timeline for grant of BIS\nCertificate &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average time for BIS Registration\nunder Voluntary license is generally one month.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, in the case of\nMandatory Registration-The average time taken is four months from the date of\nreceiving the complete application and its recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it may vary\nbecause of various reasons like-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Delay in response to\nqueries raised,&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><em>Delay in organizing\ninspections;&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><em>Delay in sample\ndeposition, and&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><em>Delay in fee dues, etc<\/em><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Validity of BIS Certificate &#8211;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>BIS Certificate under\nScheme-I may be granted initially up to two years which is valid only for the\nvarieties mentioned in the license.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, an extension can\nbe granted by applying with the requisite fee and documents under the existing\nlicense. The license may be renewed up to five years from the last date of\nvalidity of the BIS license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_the_Product_Registration_Scheme_of_BIS\"><\/span>What is the Product Registration\nScheme of BIS?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the Product Registration\nScheme of BIS, Technical guidelines are available for all the products which\nare termed as \u2018Product Manuals\u2019. Product manuals include-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Sampling\nguidelines,&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>List of test\nequipment,&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Scheme of Inspection and\nTesting (SIT),&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Description of scope\netc.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_Surveillance_of_BIS_Certificate\"><\/span>What is Surveillance of BIS\nCertificate?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the BIS Certificate\nis granted to the manufacturer, BIS carries out a surprise visit to the factory\npremises for surveillance and inspections. The surveillance is carried out by\nthe Registration officers of BIS or by personnel of the Agents appointed by\nBIS. During such surprise visits, it is examined that the manufacturer\ncontinues to maintain the manufacturing equipment, process and quality control,\ntesting capabilities, and consistency of the product to the specified\nstandard(s).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, the Testing of\nthe product samples in the factory is also witnessed during the inspection, and\nSamples are drawn from the factory for verifying conformity to relevant ISS\nthrough third-party laboratory testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion-<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>BIS Certificate protects public health and enhances confidence among the customers. It is the responsibility of the BIS Holder to offer co-operation to the Registration officers of BIS and shall also maintain the relevant records and information for future purposes.
