No. Stds.\/Organic\/Notification-01\/FSSAI-2019 Dated: 14th October 2021 to modify the prevailing Food Safety and Standards (Organic Foods) Regulation, 2017. The said provisions shall become functional on the publishing date, and all FBOs are mandated to comply with the same w.e.f. 1st May 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"table table-bordered\"><tbody><tr><td>\n  Sr. No.\n  <\/td><td>\n  Regulation\n  <\/td><td>\n  Comments\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  1\n  <\/td><td>\n  Insertion: Regulation 4(3)&nbsp;[Applicability of the systems]\n  &nbsp;\n  (3)&nbsp;Aggregators or Intermediaries who accumulate or organic\n  food article from small entity or producer and sell it to target customers directly,&nbsp; are exempted from the system\u2019s provisions\n  referred in sub-regulation (1) and they shall administer records of\n  traceability&nbsp;&amp; and fulfil the provisions of the system cited in the\n  sub-regulation (1) &amp; organic food article shall not the FSSAI\u2019s logo\n  <\/td><td>\n  By this amendment, the food regulator has provided for exemptions\n  to Intermediaries&nbsp;or Aggregators who accumulate organic food article\n  from small producers or entity and sell it to the customers directly, from\n  meeting the provisions of the given systems: \n  &nbsp;\n  &nbsp;(i) Participatory Guarantee\n  System for India (PGS-India);\n  (ii) National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP);\n  (iii) Any other standards as may be notified by the Food Regulator\n  from time to time.\n  Aggregators or Intermediaries&nbsp;shall abide by the certain conditions.\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  2\n  <\/td><td>\n  Insertion: Regulation 5(3)&nbsp;[Labelling]\n  (3)\n  &nbsp;\n  &nbsp;In-conversion items that comes &nbsp;under&nbsp;PGS-India&nbsp;might be tagged as\n  \u2018PGS-Green\u2019 or \u2018In-conversion to organic\u2019 and the conversion items under NPOP\n  might be tagged as \u2018In-conversion to organic\u2019&nbsp;&amp; to the shelf life of the items. Good practice for an <em><strong>FBO<\/strong><\/em><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fixed-base_operator\"><em><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/sup> is to retain traceability records for products\u2019 shelf life plus a definite period, e.g. twelve months. Such practice does come in handy during an unexpected on-site inspection conducted by FSSAI\u2019s officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_PGS-Green\"><\/span>What is PGS-Green?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>PGS refers to a process of authenticating organic items, which\nensure that their production stays in line with underlying quality guidelines\nand standards. This scheme aims to ensure the systematic development of the organic\nagri-sector in the nation. Nearly all forms of horticultural, agricultural,\n&amp; non-food crops are being cultivated under the organic certification\nprocess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The recent amendments made to Food Safety and Standards (Organic Foods) Regulation seeks to exempt intermediaries and aggregators from the meeting provisions of the established system such as NPOP, PGS-India, or FSSAI-regulated system.
