The entity has been set up to underpin science-based\nstandards for food items and to administer the overall supply chain of the\nfood, right from manufacturing to retailing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>The Food and Safety Act, 2006 came into existence after the systematic compilation of the following Acts that existed earlier: <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Prevention\nof Food Adulteration Act, 1954; <\/li><li>Meat\nFood Products Order, 1973; <\/li><li>Fruit\nProducts Order, 1955;<\/li><li>Edible\nOils Packaging (Regulation) Order 1988; <\/li><li>Vegetable\nOil Products (Control) Order, 1947; <\/li><li>Solvent\nExtracted Oil, De-Oiled Meal and Edible Flour (Control) Order, 1967; <\/li><li>Milk\nand Milk Products Order, 1992, and a few others.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly framed Act aimed to set up a single\nreference point for aspects o food safety &amp; standards.
